What animals have made a difference in your life?

Dogs have made the biggest impact on my life. I could go on for hours about all the animals that have impacted my life... but dogs have had the greatest (after humans, of coarse ;) ). Animals have this way of showing us ourselves. Caring for fellow beings is the most rewarding element in my life.

Vlekkie, Zeppi and Skampi were my childhood dogs. They taught me compassion, patience, loyalty, love. They were my friends. Zeppi was my birthday present from my Oupa. She was the one who listened to my stories, listened when I was sad. We used to go for the longest walks. I miss her.

Pinga and Duke are my 'now' dogs. Pinga, my English Pointer, is the best sidekick I could ever have. She is so loyal, follows me everywhere, and love veggies like me. ;)
Duke is our laid back, patient Great Dane. He has a soft heart and has shown me that old dogs can learn new tricks.
I can't picture the world without them in my life.

My horse is an absolute joy in my life. I never had horses growing up. So meeting my horse, Jupiter, just a few months ago was incredible. I have always wanted a horse and I knew he was it when I saw him. Since that day my life has become so much better. I have learned so much from him in this short time.

Chameleons made an enormous difference in my life. I grew up absolutely fascinated by them. I used to find them and study them for hours and hours. I even witnessed a mother giving birth to young when I was about 8 years old. What an incredible thing to witness. I learned so much about how the world works.
Chameleons are fascinating. Colour changing, eyes moving independently, sticky, stretchy tongues to catch insects...To this day, I can't help staring at them for hours. Just watching.

I have also had amazing experiences with birds. Always nursing babies and broken wings. This made me want to be a vet. I changed my mind as I got older, realizing I wouldn't be able to deal with so much loss. But I think I would have made a good vet and I would have been able to deal with it: being a little older.

And now. Now I have met that Bush Buck. What will I learn next?

red. today at least. I feel passionate and full of love and life.

But most days: the colour of the ocean.

Interesting article on colour: Magenta is not a colour!

I grew up in a town (Stellenbosch) where clever, nerdy and seeking information is cool. I was in a school where we all had a thirst for knowledge and where the 'cool' children were the brainy ones. And we all when to our local university together.
So I have always loved learning new and interesting things.

My favourite: my friends, who, to this day are still my best friends. I even married one of them! ;)

What is so terrible about fear?

Fear is paralysing. At this moment in time I have made a concious decission not to live in fear. I spend so much time trying to figure out why things scare me or why I fear certain situations.
In the past few years I have come a far way. I have made an attept not to be afraid of change, not to fear the new, not to live in anxiety. Now I am so much more confident. Just reading my first blog post... I can tell how far I've come. :)
